A horizontal roller, also called a horizontal sliding window or a slider window. One sash rolls along a track at the sill while the other stays fixed. CWS calls its version the Hurricane Guard Sliding Window, and ES Windows describes its ES-EL200 as a “horizontal roller sliding window.” Same window, different names.
They describe the panels as seen from outside: X is a sash that slides and O is a fixed one. XO means the left panel slides, OX the right one, and XOX is three panels with both ends sliding toward a fixed middle. ES Windows lists all three for its ES-EL200. Try both layouts in the slider above.
Go by the shape of the opening. A roller suits openings wider than they are tall, and you slide it sideways instead of lifting it. A single-hung suits taller, narrower openings. Both stay inside the frame when open, so neither swings into a walkway or the room. One house can have both; we go opening by opening.
They're a common pick there: you slide the sash sideways at counter height instead of lifting it across a deep counter, and nothing swings out into the yard. A casement, opened with a crank, is the other usual option over a sink. We look at the sink wall with you at the free in-home measure.
The rollers under the sash. CWS lists “smooth glide brass and stainless rollers” on its sliding window, and ES Windows lists needle-bearing rollers on its ES-EL200. Keeping the sill track clear of sand and debris helps any roller glide. If one ever starts to drag, call the office that installed it.
Rollers come in two-panel and three-panel layouts, and three panels let one window span a wider opening. Each product is approved at specific sizes, so the exact limit depends on the model. We measure your opening at the free in-home visit and quote a roller approved for that size.
